Kiln Formed
Glass
I fuse and slump glass in a kiln rather than blowing it, so my work is flat: dishes, coasters, small wall panels and jewellery. I stack sheet glass with layers of powder and stringer between them, fire it to 800 degrees to fuse, then fire again over a mould to give it a shape. Each firing cycle takes eighteen hours including the cooling, so nothing is quick. Colours are deliberately restrained, mostly steel blue, olive and a warm smoky grey that suits British light.
Peculiar Pies
Food & drink
I make hand-raised pies with a hot water crust, moulded around a wooden dolly rather than baked in a tin, so they stand up on their own and have that thick shattering pastry.

I sell British-grown cut flowers only, which means no roses in February and a lot of explaining why. Everything comes from two growers in Kent and Essex plus a plot I share in Hackney, cut the day before and conditioned overnight in buckets. I make hand-tied bunches wrapped in paper with no cellophane, no floral foam anywhere, ever, and jam jar arrangements for people who want something ready to sit on a table. The stock changes every fortnight because that is what the season does.

I run a bench in a shared workshop and make in weekly batches, which is where the name comes from.
Wednesday Woodblock
Print & illustration
I print mokuhanga, Japanese water-based woodblock, using cherry plywood, rice paste and a baren rubbed by hand. There is no press involved at all. Each colour is a separate block, registered with cut notches, and a print with six colours means six carvings and six passes. The ink sinks into the paper rather than sitting on it, so the surface stays matt and soft. My images are quiet: rain on water, folded laundry, a bowl of plums. Editions of twenty, printed in one sitting.

Enamel is my material. I sift powdered glass onto copper and silver and fire it in a small kiln, usually four or five layers, and the colour only really arrives at the end. My palette is meadow: poppy red, cornflower, a green that shifts depending on the light. The shapes are simple domed discs and petal drops, so the colour does the talking. Enamel chips if you drop it on tile, and I say so honestly rather than pretending it is indestructible.
