Anvil & Ivy
Jewellery
Everything I make starts as flat sheet or round wire and gets hammered into shape on a small stake anvil I inherited. That means the surfaces keep their planishing marks and catch the light unevenly, which is the whole point. I make wide cuffs, forged bangles and drop earrings in recycled sterling and brass. No stones, no plating, nothing that will chip. If a cuff needs resizing years later, bring it back to a market and I will sort it on the spot.

I work almost entirely in reticulated silver. You heat the sheet until the surface is about to collapse, and it ripples into a landscape you cannot fully control. Those sheets become signet-style rings, brooches and heavy pendants. I set the occasional rough-cut sapphire or a British-cut agate, always rub-over so nothing snags on a jumper. Customers tend to arrive wanting something that looks ancient rather than shiny, and that is exactly what the process gives me.

I bake with a sourdough starter I have kept alive for nine years and a stone-milled flour from a farm in Suffolk.

Woodwork
My speciality is end-grain butcher's blocks, where the wood is cut into cubes and glued standing up so the knife goes between the fibres rather than across them.

Candles & home fragrance
I make candles for the start of the day rather than the end of it, which nobody else seems to be doing. Coffee grounds and grapefruit, hot buttered toast, a cold clean mint. They come in short wide tins so they light quickly and go out without drama. The wax is a soy and coconut blend and I pour about sixty a week in a shared kitchen unit. Every tin comes with a strip of long matches, because hunting for a lighter at seven in the morning is miserable.
The Annealing Room
Glass
I cast glass into plaster moulds taken from objects I have modelled in wax, which means each mould is destroyed to get the piece out.
